One of our adventure tours in Indonesia! Central and East Java is know for it’s rugged landscape and numerous volcanoes of which some are still active! Starting in the city of Yogyakarta to see the Hindu Prambanan temple complex, you then continue to the stunning Dieng plateau and afterwards overland to the mountainous landscapes of East Java where you get a chance get get up close, very close! with the active volcanoes Mt. Bromo & Ijen.


  • Day 1: Arrival Yogyakarta

    In the morning you will arrive in your hotel in Yogyakarta. There are many small restaurants where you can enjoy a delicious lunch, situated quite close to the famous Jalan Malioboro. Make a city-tour by becak (cycle taxi) and stop by the famous kraton of the sultan of Yogyakarta. Or visit a wayang kulit and batic factory, to see how this art from Yogya is manufactured. Yogya is a great place to discover on your own and a perfect city to shop around for souvenirs.

  • Day 2: Yogyakarta – Prambanan

    In the afternoon we leave for Prambanan, a Hindu temple complex. On the way we visit Kota Gede where they make beautiful silverware. In Prambanan you will have a wonderful opportunity to see a magnificent sunset over the entire complex. After sunset we will enjoy a dance performance of the famous Ramayana ballet. Preceding the performance there will be a wonderful Indonesian buffet (included). Around 10.00 pm you will be back in your hotel.

  • Day 3: Yogyakarta – Dieng & Borobudur

    Before sunrise you depart for the 2000m in altitude lying Dieng Plateau. On this plateau are the most ancient temples of Java situated. There is also a wonderful fairy-like lake that changes color because of the high sulfur vapor. On your way back, you drive to Borobudur, the world-famous Buddhism temple. In the late afternoon there is plenty of time to discover Borobudur on your own, by then the tourist-crowds will be gone. After that we return to Yogya.

  • Day 4: Sarangan – Sukuh

    We drive to Solo, another Javanese city under principality, right next to Yogyakarta. It is possible to observe one of the kratons. Just around the corner is an antique flee-market. After lunch you depart for the mysterious and erotic Sukuhtemple, situated on a high plateau. On our way we pass numerous tobacco and sugarcane fields. We make a beautiful walk around this unspoiled area towards Tawangmanggu, where friendly locals take you by the hand to show you their villages. You stay the night in an simple hotel.

  • Day 5: Malang

    We continue towards Malang, where we arrive in the late afternoon. Malang used to be a popular destination for the Dutch in colonial times. You can still experience the colonial atmosphere in town.

  • Day 6: Bromo

    By car we drive to a village to the south of Bromo. Here we transfer to an open jeep to drive through magnificent scenery. We visit a scenic waterfall and eventually we end up in the ‘sand-sea’ surrounding Bromo. We make a spectacular ride to the north side of the volcano. The route we take to show you Bromo is rarely used by other tourists, a unique and adventurous experience!

  • Day 7: Kalibaru

    An early start in order to catch a spectacular sunrise at Bromo’s crater-rim. You can reach the rim by foot, by horse or by jeep. If the first sunrays break through the sky you will have the feeling you are standing on the moon! After breakfast we drive to Kalibaru, where you can relax in the swimming-pool and process your impressions of this morning. For the ones still active enough there is a possibility to wander around the plantations that belong to the hotel.

  • Day 8: Kalibaru

    A free day in this wonderful place… It is possible to participate in excursions like a tour to the cacao-, rubber- and coffee plantations. You can also stroll around the only primary forest left on Java. Or just relax and laze by the pool.

  • Day 9: Kalibaru – Sukamade

    Today we go off the beaten track to the Meru Betiri Nature Park. This park is named after the highest mountain in the area: The Gunung Betiri (1.223m). In the park you can find one of the few primary forests left on Java. You will find mangroves, swamp and beaches. Passing a coffee- and cacao plantation, a jeep takes you to one of the largest indigenous parts of jungle in East Java to Sukamade. You will stop at the beach near a fishing village. The ideal spot for a pic-nic lunch. From here, you can go for a 5 km walk through tropical forest. You might be lucky to spot the hornbill bird. From the canopy curious monkeys keep an eye on you. It’s a spectacular drive on a rough, dirt track. Sometimes you have to cross rivers to reach the village of Sukamade in the middle of the jungle. You stay in a very simple accommodation where you share a bedroom amongst 3-4 people. If you like you can go for another (optional) walk at the end of the afternoon. The guide is at additional costs. The walk takes you through rain- and bamboo forest ending at a stunning viewpoint.

    After diner (included) you go to Pantai Penyu. Here we try to search the majestic sea turtles that come on shore to lay their eggs seasonally. This is one of the few places left in the world where you can witness this remarkable event
    Ones they are laying their eggs you can even take pictures, but without your flash light.
    Note: in case we cannot reach Meru Betiri. Due to heavy rainfall, we will offer an alternative program.

  • Day 10: Sukamade – Ketapang

    After visiting the rubber plantation we head back to civilization. But not for long. We change our jeep for a car and climb into the mountains. Here lies a resort with a beautiful view of Ijen volcano. This is a haven of peace and tranquility. Ijen volcano has a giant caldera that is 20 km wide at some points. There is a blue lake inside and on its shore there are numerous sulfur-wells. Every day porters descend into the caldera to get sulfur and carry it downhill. Some of them carry up to 120 kg.

  • Day 11: Ijen – Bali

    Early in the morning we leave for Pos Paltuding. From here we start climbing the Ijen volcano. It won’t be easy, but you will be highly rewarded once you see the overwhelming view from the top. Imagine you would be a labourer who had to walk down to the sulphur pit and then climb out again with a heavy load on your back, every single day! It’s nothing new for the locals here. The climb will take around 2,5 hours. After that we we take the ferry to Bali. We can drop you in e.g. Bali or Banyuwangi Airport.
