In Lombok the Senggigi Festival is one of the most colourful events of the year. It starts with a large opening parade in which music, traditional costumes and cultural performances are show cased. This happens on the main road just Southof the Art Market near Asmara restaurant.
Ethnic groups from all over Lombok will participate each representing their local district and having their own dances, including, Balinese dances (Yes Lombok is home to several Balinese communities!) It’s not only about music and dancing but there are also daily stick fighting ‘Peresean’ competitions.
A great way to see the different traditions that are part of Lombok, and the best thing is, that’s it’s all free! This year the festival will take place from 16 – 19 September.
